Two iconic yachts side by side

23 May 2022

Yachts Maiden and Scaramouche side by side on the River Hamble. Both yachts originally rigged by OYS in the 80’s and now both recently re-rigged by OYS.

Maiden was the 1989-90 Whitbread round the world race yacht raced by Tracy Edwards and the first all-female crew. She has just had a complete refit and will set sail on 22nd September from Southampton for a three-year world tour to promote, fundraise for and facilitate the education of girls.

Scaramouche is the 1981 Frers designed USA Admirals Cup yacht. Arguably she is even more famous with its current custodians ‘Project Scaramouche / GCA sailing’ , headed by Jon Holt and doing fantastic work for youth sailing and grabbing all the right positive news headlines.

Two iconic yachts and both changing the lives of young people both in the UK and soon around the world. This really is quite a nostalgic sight with these yachts alongside each other on the River Hamble.
